Hello everyone! My name is Kia Lor. I am a first generation student, a college senior, and an aspiring writer! For the 2018-2019 school year, I will be a part-time blogger on the UnGuide.

So, what kinds of content will I post? It depends. But, the main focus of these posts is to share campus resources for underrepresented students like you. For the next two weeks, I will be talking about support groups and how they can help you succeed in college. But that’s for next week’s blog. Today, I want to share a little bit about myself and explain my role on the UnGuide.

Like many underrepresented students, I came from a low-income background. I was born in Thailand and immigrated to the United States when I was six years old. I went to a public school where a majority of the students were Asians. It is not unexpected, then, that the school is low-funded with a limited number of resources and teachers.

As a college student, I recognized the disparity between the funding of college universities and public schools. In college, there are so many resources for students such as career centers, job fairs, writing centers, and more. But, I only use the ones that work for me. At the UnGuide, my role is to interview these campus resources to find out how they benefit you guys.
